Biodata: Prof. Dr. Uda Hashim

Prof. Dr. Uda Hashim is a Senior Professor (VK6-B) in UniMAP. He has 14 years of working experience in the CMOS wafer fabrication foundry before joining Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) in February, 2002 as a lecturer and principle researcher in the School of Microelectronic Engineering. He is currently serving as the Deputy Vice Chancellor of UniMAP on Research and Innovation. He served as a Director to The Institute of Nano Electronic Engineering (INEE), UniMAP on 2008 until 2017. He is actively involved in research and development activities especially in microelectronics and nanoelectronics engineering leading to nano biosensors, DNA Chips, Microfluidic and Nano Lab-On-Chip devices for medical, food and agriculture applications. At present, he has published more than 590 peer-reviewed international articles. His current H-Index is 25 with 2900 citation. He also successfully supervised 2 Post-Doctoral students, 20 PhD students and 35 MSc students, while 10 PhD and 12 MSc students are still working towards completion.

While working with UniMAP, his major achievements and contributions are in developing the microelectronic curriculum and setting up a teaching fabrication facility for the Microelectronic Engineering Undergraduate Program. This setup has been recognized as the first in Malaysia for teaching undergraduates. Under his management and leadership, INEE has obtained the recognition of Nano Malaysia Centre of Excellence from MOSTI and has been awarded Bionexus Lab Status by Malaysian Biotechnology Corp. In research product exposition, Prof. Dr. Uda Hashim has won more than 120 awards locally and internationally with seven most prestigious awards which are MTE 2015 The Very Best Award, MTE 2015 Croatia Inova Special Award, SIIF Korea 2014 Grand Prize Award, BioInnovation of The Year Award 2014 at BioMalaysia 2014, Best Jury Award at GENEVA 40th International Exhibition of Invention 2012, Platinum Award at British Invention Show BIS2010 and Genius Award from Hungary in 2007. In 2014, he was awarded as a Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM) by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. He is one of the recipients of the ISESCO Laureate in 2012. He also obtained National Patent Award in 2013 for the product titled “A Kit for Pregnancy Detection Using a Biosensor” from Perbadanan Harta Intelek Malaysia (MyIPO). He was formerly the Vice President of Malaysia Nanotechnology Association and Fellow to The Malaysian Solid State Science & Technology Society. Recently, he has been appointed as a main committee member for national nanotechnology under MOSTI’s Nanotechnology Directorate and serves in Nanotechnology under the National Professors Council.
